Jalen Ngonda - Doctrine Of Love - Album Of The Year Edition Jalen Ngonda
Jalen Ngonda’s second album, Doctrine of Love, is my most-listened-to album of 2026. The opening track, “Anyone in Love,” sets the tone for the whole record, which acts as a love letter not only to a genre but to a time: 1960s soul music. “Mr. Train Conductor”, my favourite track, is a joyful take on the classic trope of calling on a third party, like The Marvelettes’ “Please Mr. Postman” or Sam Cooke’s “Cupid,” to really tell the world how much you love someone.
The mono-mixed production is my favourite thing about the album. Head back to that opening track, crank up your speakers and listen to the instrumental section towards the end. The production doesn’t separate the sounds; it keeps them all together, like a big slice of 1960s soul cake. The production alone is enough to make me like every song on the album, and Jalen’s songwriting and unique voice push that like into love.
