Overpass - Elsewhere, Always - Album Of The Year Edition Overpass

When we were asked to pick our albums of the year, overpass’s Elsewhere, Always was an easy choice. I first saw the Birmingham four-piece at The Jacaranda back in 2021, and five years later they played again for us at Jacaranda Baltic to celebrate the release fo this album, which has since gone to No. 3 in the Official Albums Chart.

Rich Turvey’s production keeps the energy of a live performance on the record, and a few tracks co-written with Spector’s Fred Macpherson add some extra polish. Shoegaze-tinged guitars sit under huge, singalong hooks, and Max Newbold puts his soul into each and every line.

Seeing a band in a small venue and then watching them reach the top three is one of the best things about working in music. I’ll be telling people I saw them at Jacaranda Baltic for years.
